With polymer alternatives, we are expanding our portfolio with precision plastic formed parts

As a premium manufacturer of flexible shims, customer-specific formed parts and self-adhesive decorative overlays, MARTIN processes an ever-growing selection of metal foils and precision sheets. The company has now expanded its range of materials to include flat semi-finished products made from numerous technical plastics. Based on its wide range of machines, it opens up many new possibilities for the realization of sophisticated seals, high-precision spacer elements as well as housing and functional parts in small and large batches for its customers.

Whether automotive or aerospace, whether gear construction or fluid technology – in many key sectors of industry and numerous technical disciplines, MARTIN is one of the top addresses for the production of precision parts made of metal foils as well as thin and fine sheets. The company specializes in particular in the customer-specific production of shims for flexible tolerance compensation, high-precision laser-cut parts, decorative foils with self-adhesive coatings and functional assemblies made from formed parts.

MARTIN recently expanded its range of metallic materials with an attractive selection of semi-finished products made of plastic films and engineering plastics.

In concrete terms, this means that in addition to products made of unalloyed and alloyed steels, non-ferrous metals and aluminum, the company now also manufactures flat molded parts made of PET, POM, PTFE (Teflon) and the composite material Rubore™ for its customers. MARTIN can offer its customers numerous new possibilities and alternatives for the production of high-quality components and machine elements as well as for the realization of innovative assemblies. The company’s own tool shop and the wide range of modern manufacturing and processing technologies in the main plant in Dietzenbach form the ideal conditions for this. “With 2D laser fine cutting, water jet cutting, cutting plotting, CNC punching and precision machining alone, we have numerous processes that can be used flexibly for both metal and plastic processing,” says Managing Director Christoph Martin.

Three-part specialization
With the inclusion of technical plastics in its materials portfolio, MARTIN focuses primarily on the production of sophisticated seals – such as special seals for automotive technology – as well as polymer spacer films for tolerance compensation in roller bearing assemblies. The realization of molded parts for the housing of air filter systems and similar units is also on the company’s agenda. In addition, the newly compiled selection of plastics offers many other options. Both PET and POM are suitable for the production of components where – among other things – hardness, rigidity, strength and toughness are important, while PTFE (Teflon) convinces with its good sliding properties and its electrical insulating properties.

“With our now three-part specialization in metal foil elements, sheet metal processing with a focus on forming technology and high-quality flat plastic parts, we offer our customers many new accents for the design and optimization of their supply chain,” emphasizes Christoph Martin.

Large range of performance

Due to its flexible production organization, MARTIN is able to economically realize both small and large batch sizes. In-house design and toolmaking skills also offer plenty of scope for the implementation of customer-specific solutions. Under the umbrella of its technology brand M-Tech®, the company currently covers a wide range of modern supplier services.

It ranges from the manufacture of components and assemblies made of steel, metal and plastic (e.g. ball bearing shim rings, motor bases, decorative strips, etc.) to customer-oriented process advice for cost optimization through the systematic use of shims to services relating to development and construction and prototyping as well as customized packaging and logistics solutions. Another central pillar in MARTIN’s M-Tech® portfolio is the realization of shims made of metal and plastic for tolerance compensation during component assembly and machine alignment in development, production, assembly and maintenance (MRO).
