M-Tech®S – Shim Rings - Fine

Feine Passscheiben ergänzen DIN 988. Shim Rings complement DIN 988
Passscheiben. Shim Rings in stainless steel complement DIN 988

Special shims complement the well-known DIN 988 series with thinner versions.

M-Tech®S – Shim Rings – Fine in stainless steel complement DIN 988. The new shim product line ranges from 0.010 mm up to 0.090 mm in 10-micrometer increments. The material varies from cold-rolled DC 01 C490 strip (formerly St 2 K 50) to cold-rolled, stainless steel strips 1.4310 with a minimum tensile strength of 1100 MPa. As a result, the users gain the upgrade to higher strength and to the stainless material. These special stainless shim rings complement the DIN 988 series and thus become a sub-standard that can be quickly obtained directly from the manufacturer.

Typical DIN 988 Shim rings – areas of application
Precision shim Rings are essential in the fields of robotics, optics, and precision engineering. Typical applications include axial positioning tasks or the preload adjustment of rolling bearings. Adjustment work during assembly can be carried out more quickly if no intermediate machining is required. Moreover, the clean, burr-free products with limited thickness tolerances of +/- 10% help hereby.

M-Tech®S – Shim Rings – Fine

Passscheiben Umschlag Sim rings packages complement DIN 988

The new MARTIN® shims rings – fine complement DIN 988. They are available in thicknesses from just 0.010 to 0.090 mm. Therefore they simplify the high-precision axial adjustment and alignment of machine elements on axes or shafts and enable very precisely adjustable preloads in rolling bearing assemblies.

Problems with standard DIN 988 shims and solutions

While standard shims DIN 988 can show significantly fluctuating thickness tolerances depending on their origin, The adjustment with M-Tech®S Shim Rings – fine complement DIN 988 which can be more precised. In particular, the increments from 0.010 mm up to 0.090 mm are rarely available elsewhere. The particularly low burr nature of M-Tech®S shim rings – fine is also another benefit. Furthermore, the risk of component contamination due to packaging is avoided. The flat, transparent sachet is user-friendly. Hence, the parts remain flat until removed and are easy to separate.

Easy procurement and a wide range of machining options
Georg Martin GmbH is certified in aviation and can therefore be easily integrated into your own supply chain. For shims made to drawings, material grades from 0.005 mm to 20 mm are available from a single source. Different materials and manufacturing processes enable the supply of large quantities or custom-made products according to individual specifications. Solid, flat-grinded rings are also possible, thus meeting even high mechanical requirements. Laser and waterjet cutting, as well as machining, are used for cutting processes. Punching, bending, and deep-drawing are further capabilities offered from a single source and in-house toolmaking.
