Distance compensation using machine elements in the form of technical shims. These are designed to compensate for manufacturing-related component tolerances without the need for mechanical reworking. This reduces costs and easily compensates for differences that are difficult to determine in the design phase.
There are various types of shims for compensating for differences in thickness. What they all have in common is that the tolerance is compensated for by adding – but usually subtracting – sheets and foils of defined thicknesses. Either sheets are removed from a sheet package or additional sheets are added – a quick job for fitters or maintenance engineers.
